How to fix an “Invalid Document ID” error in Banktivity

It is important that you follow the steps exactly as they are outlined below to ensure your ledger will be restored with the most current data.

An “Invalid Document ID” indicates that there is a problem preventing your local ledger from connecting with the Cloud Sync Ledger – either that the initial sync was not set up for the same Banktivity User Account you are currently signed into, or that the Cloud Sync Ledger has been deleted.

If you are signed in to the correct Banktivity User Account and still receiving the “Invalid Document ID” error, you should follow the steps below to re-set-up Cloud Sync. Please make sure you are on your device that you feel has the most up to date information. If possible, it is best to start this process in Banktivity for Mac as it has the most complete set of data.

To Re-Sync Ledger Data from Mac:
1. Launch Banktivity and open your Ledger. Choose Ledger > Disable Cloud Sync from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
2. Choose Ledger > Check Health to run a repair on the local data. If any issues are found, please click “Fix”.
3. Choose Ledger > Enable Cloud Sync, then enter and confirm a new Cloud Sync password to encrypt the data before it reaches the Banktivity Cloud.
4. Wait for the changes to completely finish uploading before you proceed.

To Re-Sync Ledger Data from iOS:
✻Please only use this option if you are unable to re-sync from the Mac.
1. Launch Banktivity and make sure your device is connected to the internet.
2. Tap on the ‘settings’ gear icon in the top right corner of the screen, then tap on “Sync Settings / Cloud Sync”.
3. Choose “Troubleshooting”, then choose “Remove Sync Settings” and confirm.
4. Tap on the ‘settings’ gear icon once more, then tap on “Sync Settings / Setup”.
5. Confirm the Cloud Document Name, then enter and confirm a new Cloud Sync Password to encrypt the data before it reaches the Banktivity Cloud.
6. Wait for the changes to completely finish uploading before you proceed.

Once you have completed the steps above to re-sync the data, you will need to open the newly synced ledger on your other devices.

To Open the Synced Ledger on another Mac:
1. Launch Banktivity and open the Organizer (go to File > Open Organizer or press ⌘Command-O).
