“Incompatible” error when setting up an account

Posted on November 22, 2021 by Nancy Powers Libby

If you receive an “Incompatible” error message when setting up a new account (or reconnecting a current account), you have two options. You can change the account type (if possible) or create a new account and export the transactions from the old to the new. Here are the instructions for both options:

Change the account type

Double-click on the account in question in the sidebar. Choose the correct account type in the “Type” field. If the correct account type is not selectable, you will have to create a new account.

Create a new account and move transactions from the old to the new

  1. Click on the “+” sign at the top of your Banktivity document and choose “New Account”.
  2. Search for your bank in the supported bank list and follow the setup assistant prompts.
  3. Select the old account and choose File > Export and export the transactions to QIF.
  4. Now, select the new account and choose File > Import and select the QIF file.

You can also opt to cut and paste transactions from one account to another.

Once you’ve successfully set up the new account, you can delete the old account.
