Locating Your Banktivity Ledger

To ensure your financial data is fully protected by your personal backup solutions (such as Time Machine or external drives), you may need to know exactly where your Banktivity Ledgers are stored on your Mac.

Banktivity now securely stores these files within your macOS user account's Group Containers directory at the following path:

~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.iggsoftware.banktivity.library/IGGFinance/production/Documents

How to Access This Folder on Your Mac

Because the Apple Library folder is hidden by default on macOS, the quickest way to find it is by using the Go to Folder command:

  1. Click on your desktop or open a new Finder window.
  2. In the top menu bar, click on Go, then select Go to Folder... (or press Shift ⇧ + Command ⌘ + G on your keyboard).
  3. Copy and paste the entire path below into the search box that appears:
~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.iggsoftware.banktivity.library/IGGFinance/production/Documents
  1. Press Return or click Go.

A Finder window will open directly into the folder containing your data. If you are configuring a custom backup software, you can target this specific directory to ensure your documents are safely included.

Important Backup Note: If you use Apple's built-in Time Machine, your entire home folder—including this hidden Library directory—is backed up automatically by default unless you have manually excluded it in your System Settings.
